Heavy Civil Construction in Houston & the Gulf Coast

Excavation, grading, site preparation, underground utilities, piling and foundation drilling. Where the site is wet or the cut is deep, we bring the dewatering and shoring too, so one contractor answers for the whole hole.

What we do

  • Mass excavation & grading. Cut, fill and grading to design, including detention and pond work.
  • Land clearing & site preparation. Clearing, stripping and preparing sites for construction.
  • Underground utilities & trenching. Water, sewer and storm installation, with trench protection designed for the depth.
  • Pile driving & sheet piling. Driven piles and sheet pile walls, installed by our own crew.
  • Foundation & pier drilling. Drilled foundations and piers.

When a site needs more than excavation

Most sitework is straightforward until it isn't. The expensive surprises on Gulf Coast sites are almost always water and unstable sides.

  • Groundwater within the depth of the cut: plan dewatering before excavation starts, not after the trench floods.
  • Excavations 5 feet or deeper: a protective system is required. The choice between sloping, trench boxes, beam-and-plate or sheet pile depends on depth, space and what is nearby.
  • Work beside water, pipelines or structures: sheet pile or engineered shoring, so the excavation does not move what is next to it.

Because DynaCon does dewatering and shoring in-house, these are decisions inside one plan rather than three subcontracts to coordinate.

Sitework on the Gulf Coast

Houston-area clays change character with moisture: firm in a dry spell, soft and heavy after rain. A shallow water table and sand seams mean even modest cuts can take on water.

Flat terrain makes drainage and detention central to most sites, which is why grading and pond work are a large part of the region's civil work.

Weather drives the schedule. We plan sequencing and water control so a storm costs days, not weeks.

How a job runs

  1. Review. Plans, geotech, utilities and schedule. We flag water and depth risks early.
  2. Plan. Sequencing, equipment, trench protection and water control.
  3. Mobilize. Equipment and crews to site, protection and controls in place.
  4. Build. Excavation, utilities, piling and grading to design.
  5. Close out. As-builts, cleanup and handover.

Frequently asked questions

What size projects do you take on?

Jobs from $20,000 to $20 million.

Do you self-perform dewatering and shoring on civil jobs?

Yes. Dewatering, cofferdams and shoring are in-house, so wet or deep excavations stay inside one contract and one schedule.

What do you need to price a job?

The plans, the specifications (the project manual) and the geotechnical report.

Where do you work?

We serve the whole United States. Right now our crews are working in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida, from our base in Houston.
